Romans 15 Life Coaching Ministry

Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, "How can I help?" - The Message

God placed a burden on my heart to help people. The opportunities God has led me to and the journeys God has brought me through have blessed me and prepared me to bless others through coaching, counseling and personal/professional development. This new Life Coaching ministry at Fair Oaks Church is a free service, dedicated to helping people navigate the everyday bumps in the road that come up in life’s journey.

What is Life Coaching?
Life coaching is an ongoing, non-judgmental partnership rather than the professional/client relationship typical of counseling or therapy. A coach works with you to take something you already know how to do and helps you do it better. If you’ve never played golf in your life, you wouldn’t start with a coach; you’d go to an instructor or trainer. Seeking the help of a coach isn’t an indicator that you don’t know how to do something, rather it’s a commitment to taking something you do know how to do (your job, marriage, parenting, finances - you know, LIFE!) and doing it even better.

A life coach works one-on-one with you to support personal growth, behavior modification, and goal-setting. Based on the premise that most people can achieve their goals if properly guided, a life coach will act as a mentor, assisting you in the process of taking action. A life coach does not focus on the past or spend valuable time analyzing failures. Life coaching is all about moving forward, taking action and accountability.

Life coaching helps you look at where you are now and where you’d like to be, and helps you bridge the gap. People receive results a lot faster when they learn to act on their own behalf. A life coach can help you overcome fears and achieve balance in both your personal and professional life. By raising awareness and encouraging you to take responsibility for your life, life coaching can help you rise to your own particular challenge and go further than you ever thought possible.

As a Christian life coach, my approach will be solution focused but also Christ focused with a biblical foundation. Click here for more: Christian Coaching and Counseling.

The Benefits of Having a Life Coach
With a life coach, you get to talk about your problems and challenges with someone who's not going to interrupt you, make judgments about you, criticize what you're saying, or offer opinions based on their own experience. You can use your life coach as a sounding board for your ideas, like your business plan, what to put in a presentation, how to have a successful interview, your new fitness regime, resolving a conflict with your spouse, child, parent, boss, neighbor; the list is endless. Although the coaching process is about you learning to find your own motivations and solutions, your coach can also offer suggestions if it is appropriate and everything you say will be in total confidence.

How Does Life Coaching Work?
Coaching can be face to face or on the telephone. We will talk at a pre-arranged time for weekly, bi-weekly or monthly sessions, which can last between 30 and 60 minutes.

During that time, we will establish the issue(s) you want to address and begin the process of setting goals. Together we will explore a variety of options that might enable you to take a step nearer to your goal. What if talking to someone doesn’t appeal? A lot of coaches now do email coaching which can be surprisingly effective, giving both parties the time to think before setting their thoughts, questions and answers down in type.

As a certified administrator of several personal development tools, I can also work with people using profile instruments like the MBTI, EQ-I, SDI, CPI-260 and FIRO-B as either part of the coaching process or as stand-alone events either one-on-one or in groups.

Whichever method you choose, life coaching will be a challenging experience for you, requiring a high level of enthusiasm and commitment, but well worth the effort.
